The Mission of the Young Humanitarians.

We’ve found, over the years, that the majority of our peers wish to make a positive impact on our world. One of our most basic human instincts is the nurturing instinct. However, with our current social and political climate, it can be somewhat overwhelming for youth to get involved in their communities, because it’s hard to know just where to start.

Our goal is to provide resources to youth that will help them learn how to take action in their communities. One of the ways that we do that is by spreading awareness about the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. When your objective is social activism leading to political change in today’s world, it’s difficult to be organized in the way you tackle worldwide issues, so the United Nations have provided a list of 17 goals to be fulfilled by the global community by the year 2030, including climate action and the eradication of poverty.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are universal goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all the people on this planet enjoy peace and prosperity.
These 17 Goals build on the previous successes of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, while covering new aspects such as climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable consumption, peace and justice, among other priorities. The goals are interconnected – often the key to success on one will involve tackling issues more commonly associated with another.

"Saving our planet, lifting people out of poverty, advancing economic growth... these are one and the same fight. We must connect the dots between climate change, water scarcity, energy shortages, global health, food security and women's empowerment. Solutions to one problem must be solutions for all."

— Ban Ki-Moon, Former Secretary-General of the United Nations

With these goals in mind, our group plans to spread awareness about a variety of global issues, and to also teach youth how to be leaders. We plan to organize numerous fundraisers and host a variety of different workshops to give students the best learning experience possible. Another one of our goals is to have meaningful conversations and to discuss how we, as youth, can make a positive impact on our world. We aim to create an environment filled with thought-provoking discussion and healthy debate, with room for creativity and expression, that will allow young minds to prosper and grow.

It’s often hard for individuals to stay motivated, when nothing ever seems to change. When you recycle your water bottles or pick up some trash, you don’t immediately see the value of your actions when our planet is still becoming increasingly polluted. But we want to make a lasting change. Our youth are the ones who will grow to be the leaders of tomorrow. They will have the real power to change the world, and we want to help them prosper to become the best leaders they can be. Ultimately, our mission is to contribute to the future of society.
